Politics: President Obama may ‘move on Syria and take a position on gun restrictions before election’

UPDATE: August 21/2012 – Does President Obama’s statement yesterday in the press conference, at the White House support my prediction?

Even the NY Times has suggested that he will move on Syria if leader Bashar al-Assad  uses chemical weapons (WMD) and tries to use them on his people. The only part they left out, will he do it before the election, if he needs it to win the Presidency.

August 12/2012 – In my opinion, President Barack Obama may take his head out of the sand and make the decision to move and help the people’s of Syria, before the election. His absence of help seems to be clear and yet he does not want to get involved, but it seems to me he is waiting for the right time, when he needs the support from voters.

We all realize that Russia and Libya are friendly, and that may be holding him back, but the election is far more important to him, to overlook the tragedies that are happening in Syria.

It’s a big move and the right one, someone has to help Syria, and who better than the United States of America. At this point in the election (less than three months) timing is everything.

On the issue of gun restrictions, there is no answer or comment from either the President or Mitt Romney and one of them must decide to do the right thing and condemn the automatic weapons, 100-bullet magazines, and take an honest stand on gun restrictions.

Who’s in charge, the Office of the President or the National Rifle Association (NRA?)

Every American has the right to bare arms, but not the type of automatic weapons that have killed so many in the last few months, I can’t think there is anyone who disagrees with that.

The Syria situation is a real embarrassment to the world, and why has no-one come forward to help the children, women and almost 100,000 people have been innocently killed in the last year.

United States is the last hope for the Syrian people, and Obama must help, and I suspect he will, just before the election because he must know he needs something big,  to get the voters clearly back on his side.

Just do the right thing.

And when is President Obama going to announce his vice-president running mate?

UPDATE: Christopher Husbands – Suspect in Eaton Centre shooting involved in another gun charge weeks earlier in Hamilton – dismissed

Although Christopher Husbands, 24, does have a previous criminal record from March, 1, 2010, incident, at 1:45 am, we still do not have a booking photo of him, why are the police not releasing his booking photo. (It may be because of a court publication ban.)

He’s still in custody in jail and will appear in court for the Eaton Centre charges on August 25th.

Five weeks before the Eaton Centre shooting in Toronto, Husbands was in Hamilton (just west of Toronto) and asleep in a car with a loaded (ten rounds) Heckler & Koch 40 calibre handgun in a secret compartment, and had a little pot in his possession. He was charged with nine gun related offences, but the Crown chose to dismiss all the gun related charges, because it was not his car.

He faced two more charges of obstructing a police officer, one of breaching bail conditions and one of pot possession, but the Crown chose to accept ‘time served’ for these minor charges. It was reported in court that he had no earlier criminal charges.

Had the book been thrown at him, possibly these two people and many others injured in the June shooting at Eaton Centre, would never have happened.

It appears the cops are doing everything they can to get these guns off the street, but when it enters the court system, they are failing us.

Toronto Police Service: Gun violence – Just a bunch of buzz words, will they amount to anything?

Toronto Police Service Chief Bill Blair held a news conference today,  announcing a new ‘strategy’ on how to get control of the gun violence in the City of Toronto.

The city has 17 Divisions and they plan on redirecting patrols to different areas of the city at anytime, when trouble breaks out. Extending existing eight-hour shifts to 12 hours, he plans on increasing patrols to community events like the Caribbean Festival, where he will assign almost 500 officers. All officers will be asked to work longer shifts, (compulsory overtime) which puts them at risk, and has the Toronto Police Association given the Chief their blessing?

This sounds like double talk and buzz words, to let the public think they are doing something to protect the citizens. Buzz words such as, initiatives, resources, partners, innovations and outreach, all have one thing in common, they don’t mean anything to the criminals who are murdering our citizens.

He wants the public to “Feel safe” and hopes that they are safe.

What will the criminals do to bypass this ‘initiative’ will they just move somewhere else, where police cannot find them.

Why was Chief Blair not asked about ‘Stop and Frisk’ a program that appears to be working in New York City. It allows the police to ask anyone they find to be suspicious, to search them for guns at anytime.

The Chief was asked if he supports putting cameras into TCHC (Toronto Community Housing Corp) where many of this gun violence is taking place, at the moment there are very few cameras in TCHC housing units. He danced around that and said it’s not up to him, but thinks it would be best to have more cameras.

There still is apprehension by the public in the trouble areas of the city to report anything they know or see, including the recent deadly shootings at Scarborough’s Danzig Street.

Another option put forward is to evict persons convicted of drug and gun violence from TCHC properties.

UPDATE: Colorado Theatre Shooting: James Egan Holmes ‘Many faces of Pure evil’ suspect in court yesterday

Colorado – The stoic look of James Egan Holmes, 24, was a reminder yesterday, of how one person can change the life of all Americans, in three short minutes.

He stormed into the Batman Premiere showing of Batman: ‘Dark Knight Rises’ and killed 12 innocent victims and shot another 60 without notice.

Aurora, Colorado had seen tragedy before, almost fifteen years ago with the Columbine shooting, and then just last year with the shooting of congresswoman Gaby Giffords.

Are the American people fed up yet, is this the final straw, will people realize that automatic guns and military weapons should not be available, to the general public.

The Second amendment of The United States reads:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Have we all forgotten about the “Brief history of United States of America”  from the Academy Award winning film Bowling for Columbine. In recent days after the shooting in Colorado, gun sales have increased by over 40%, why?

In the last few days gun shop owners have noticed line-ups at their doors each morning just like Walmart or Target outlets.

Did the Founders ever envision the use of an AR-15  rifle which has an automatic clip of 100 shots, which can be fired in one minute. They can be used in any kind of innocent attach, at anytime, on it’s citizens.

Does this bring about the question of whether automatic 100 per minute military style weapons should be made available in the USA?

What’s the position of President Obama and Presidential candidate Mitt Romney of the banning of these “Human killing machines”

What possible advantage are these weapons for the American public?

Holmes appeared in court yesterday looking like a cartoon character out of a violent video game, with his bright red and orange hair ‘The Joker’ and sitting there looking straight at the Judge with a very strange psychotic look. He may plead insanity, but he clearly knows right from wrong, but just may be determined extremely mentally ill.

Obama has stated all Americans MUST buy health insurance, and he indicated over three years ago he wanted to put restrictions on assault rifles like these, but what happened, the restrictions lapsed, and were never re-instated by the Obama Government and the Congress.

Will this question be brought up at the Presidential Debates in the fall?

Will the reporters have the balls to ask the big question? “What’s your position on banning automatic assault rifles?”

Not likely, why?

They are afraid of the NRA (National Rifle Association, since 1871)  and afraid if they take on the ban, elimination of these, people killing machines, they may lose votes from gun owners.

There’s no doubt USA citizens have the right to protect themselves in their homes and elsewhere, but if everyone in that Aurora, Colorado Theatre had  a concealed weapon, would that have stopped the massacre?

Many, many more would have been killed and injured, does that sound unreasonable?

How can the public support the current laws?

Not safe in a park,  Congresswoman Gaby Giffords, not safe at a University, high school,  not safe at a movie theatre, where you relax and go into fantasy land.

Voters and citizens, even gun owners, must admit, this has to stop.

The politicians have to stand up and do the right thing.

This MUST be the last, the very last incident of such a slaughter of innocent citizens, children and adults alike.

Colorado Theatre shooting, 12 dead, does the ‘main stream media’ encourage such tragedies?

Colorado, USA – The 6000 armed/full body armoured shooter in the slaughter yesterday at Century 16 Theatre in Aurora, Colorado, 12 dead over 30 injured, does the main stream media have a part in this tragedy?

It was just wall to wall coverage all day on TV, radio, and in the newspapers, as incorrect information leaked out from the internet as well.

At the 7 pm (MST) news conference by Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates, you could tell by watching, Chief Oates was clearly trying to stay away from talking about the suspect, or giving any info about him. The media questions, concentrated on the suspect instead of the survivors, and it seemed like for the first time in a mass shooting, they wanted to keep the suspects name forgotten, not glorify this evil, mentally ill man.

The next news conference will be at 2pm (MST) 4 pm (EST) Saturday.

I think this is a good start, but it will never last?

One news media outlet says, “They will not mention the suspects name,” but we all know everyone will be looking to find out more about him.

And with the internet, you can find anything you want, it will not become the norm, sadly. The media are usually asking the questions that the public want to know, and that’s why they zero in on the suspect.

There was an interview on CNN’s Piers Morgan last night, where he interviewed the two parents, (Jamie Rohrs and Patricia Legarreta) that took their toddler to the movie premiere. The first question he asked, which twitter followers wanted to know, was, “Why did you take your toddler to a midnight movie.” He quickly stepped past that and asked them questions about how they escaped alive. The interview was very compelling and touching and I’m sure CNN will be showing it again this weekend, don’t miss it.

While watching their replies, especially the young man, it appeared he was suffering from PTSD while he was emotional and cried nearly throughout the entire interview. The horror of how to get out of the theatre and save his family. They experience it for about three minutes, our militaries experience it all day, everyday they are deployed in combat regions around the world.

It reminded me this was almost like what the military experience everyday in wars around the world, and some wonder why military are coming home in such bad shape.

Even the Chief of Police of Aurora, Dan Oates, had problems when he talked about what his officers had seen in the movie theatre, after the slaughter.

I agree, we must stop glorifying these few people who do such horrendous acts to put fear in the public, and the main stream media just laps it up. Can all media stop reporting the history, and names of these nut jobs, not likely?

UPDATE: 12 dead – shootout at Batman Premiere: ‘Dark Night Rises’ in Aurora, Colorado, over 30 injured

Aurora, Colorado (near Denver) – Shootout at the Batman premiere in Aurora, Colorado at the midnight showing of the movie. The gunman entered the theatre at the screen level and threw some kind of exploding device into the sold out theatre, with his riot squad helmet and full body armour.

He randomly opened fire on the seated patrons and eight were killed instantly, others died en route to hospital.

Many theatre goers thought it was some gimmick for the opening of the long-awaited Batman film. Shots that were fired passed through the one theatre into the next injuring one patron in the other sold out screening room.

News conference by Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates disclosed more information earlier today.

Hundreds of 911 calls were received at around 12:25 a.m. and 25 police officers were on the scene within a few minutes.

He allegedly entered the theatre through the open back door of the Century 16, it is unknown why it was open. It’s not sure yet if he acted alone.

It was also reported a 3-4 month old toddler was caught around the gunfire, but is safe and uninjured. What was a toddler doing at a movie theatre at 12 midnight?

The suspect, James Egan Holmes, 24,  has been arrested and police went to his apartment early this morning. It was determined his house was booby trapped with explosives and the immediate area has been evacuated while police investigate. It is suspected by the police that there may still be suspects out there, they want to talk to, since it is unlikely it was done only by Holmes in this sophisticated shootout. Holmes is originally from San Diego but has lived in the Aurora area for a few years.

It was reported that Holmes was carrying one long gun and two handguns and wearing full body armour.

The whole incident occurred just after midnight at the Century 16 movie theatre, and many of the injured have been treated for shotgun blasts. The first person arriving at the hospital was taken by private car until EMS and police arrived on the scene.

Holmes’ mother was contacted in San Diego and said, ‘You Have the Right Person.”

Jessica Ghawi (Redfield,) one of the young women killed in the theatre shooting, was in the Eaton Centre last month in Toronto and escaped without injury, only to die in Aurora, Colorado.

UPDATE: Enough is enough, 1 dead 7 injured in Eaton Centre, Toronto as shots fired in food court. We need ‘Stop-and-Frisk’ law like NYC now

Toronto, Canada – Shots rang out in the basement food court at Toronto Eaton Centre in downtown June 2/2012, one is dead and seven injured. The shooter is still at large, but with all the cameras in and around the mall, it won’t be long before they are identified. Police seem to know who may have committed this terrible crime, but are withholding any information about the alleged suspect. This occurred at 6:30pm Saturday night with hundreds in the mall.

IMPORTANT UPDATE – What a small world, a young women who escaped safely from the Eaton Centre terror, was killed in the shootout in Aurora, Colorado today at the movie theatre. Her boyfriend Jay Meloff, who is a minor league hockey player lives in the Greater Toronto Area, and they were visiting the food court at Eaton Centre, minutes before the shootout.

This brings back memories of the terrible fatal shooting of  15-year-old Jane Creba on Yonge Street not far from the Eaton Centre on Boxing Day 2005.

In the shooting Saturday night a 25-year-old man was killed (name not disclosed) and a 13-year-old boy is in critical condition at hospital, along with six others. It occurred in the food court while the mall was packed with shoppers, and the people were evacuated immediately.

One pregnant women was knocked over as the crowd rushed from the mall and went into labor, however did not deliver the baby.

There are people running around with guns in our city. Maybe it’s time for us to bring in the NYC law where police are allowed to do ‘Stop-and- Frisk’ which is very controversial, but needed to stop these hooligans from walking our streets with loaded guns.

Even if one gun is found, it is worth it to save our citizens. The NYC law allows any police officer to stop anyone and search them for any reason, to see if they are carrying a gun.

The mall is closed today for further investigation, and unknown when it will re-open.

Jessica Ghawi (Redfield, 24) was visiting Toronto from Texas, during this terrible shooting, and had just left the food court at the Eaton Centre just minutes before the gun fire opened. She escaped with her life, and yet today she was killed in the horrible shooting at the Century 16 Theatre in Aurora, Colorado.

Twelve people were killed and over 70 shot as they watched the Batman movie, Dark Night Rises at 12:30 pm this morning. God bless her family, she will be greatly missed.

This is not the first shooting in Toronto, just last month there was a shootout at the Eaton Centre a popular downtown tourist site and shopping mall, two dead, a thirteen year old tourist shot in the head, but he will completely survive. After that shooting the police would not disclose the type of weapon used but it was rumored it was a machine gun in the open and crowded food court in the middle of the day.

After the shootout at the Eaton Centre last month our Mayor Rob Ford said, “This is the safest city in the world,” does he still believe that?

We need our politicians and police to stop dicking around and have the ‘balls’ to take some drastic action, like bringing in ‘Stop-and-Frisk’ like they have in New York City. Granted, it does appear to skirt peoples civil rights, but then who in Canada is allowed to carry a loaded gun. Very, very few, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

The shooting occurred at a private party at 10:40 p.m. in Toronto’s east end, and what was a toddler doing awake at that late hour. Many party goers left the incident injured and have not re-surfaced.

Why has it not been reported, who was at the party, what kind of party was it? It was an annual event BBQ arranged by someone. It appears everyone is on edge to single out any ‘type’ of people who may have attended the party, but we all have our suspicions.

Shyanne Charles, 14, and a 23-year-old man were killed at the party and the toddler, 22 month, was only grazed and not life threatening.

Many at the party asked, “why did this happen,” but very few would give their full names to the media or the police. The party was packed with young people under 30, but the problem is, nobody saw anything.

It’s time we all wake up, and start talking, and put an end to this violence in our great city, they (hoodlums) want you to shut up, and not turn them in, in that respect, it will just continue and never end.

‘Stop snitching’ How’s that working, is that the solution, or is it the problem?

Let’s stop this non-sence and get these hoodlums and gangsters off our streets. It may be your child or loved one that is next to be killed.

Anyone with video or information is asked to report to Toronto Police Service.
