It seems Ferguson, Missouri residents are getting the message, STAY HOME.

Ferguson, Missouri, USA – After eleven days of unrest in the small community of Ferguson (20,000) a suburb of St. Louis protesters have finally made the decision to stay home because the large numbers of armed security forces and the National Guard.

It all started last Saturday when an unarmed 18-year-old black man was shot dead during the daytime in a residential street just off the main drag.

Not known when the murdered young man Michael Brown had a scuffle at a local variety store where he was seen on video tape allegedly stealing about $40 of cigars and strong arming (store video below) the store clerk while he was leaving the store.

He was eventually stopped by officer Darren Wilson (28) a six-year veteran of Ferguson Police P.D. who is now on paid leave. He has said he originally stopped them for walking down the middle of the street, but the officer then realized he might be the person the radio said had recently robbed (10 minutes earlier) a store of cigars. He got in a struggle with Brown and finally shot him dead with six-gun shots.

For some unknown reason The Furguson, Missouri Police Department website in down right now, and you can view it HERE, which is the Wikipedia website, and we don’t know when their home page will be open.

They may be hiding under their desks, but I think they are packing their bags, because I’m sure the force, 53 officers of which only 3 are black, will soon be shutdown and proper more trained officers will be brought in to stop  harassment of the fine residents of Ferguson.

‘White only’ at swimming pool in Cincinnati, 2011, this is not 1940 – Owner says ‘No racism’

Cincinnati, Ohio – Michael Gunn and his child (did) live in a complex in Cincinnati, his black child, 10, was hassled in June 2011 for going in the ‘Public Swimming Pool.’

This is not the late 1800’s or early 1900’s and yet this incident has surfaced and is before the courts now.

Complex landlord Jamie Heins (white) says she bought the sign at an antique store and ‘she is not a racist.’

Currently it is before a Ohio Civil Rights Act violation hearing and the Judge has reserved judgement. Since the incident they have moved and incurred moving and many other expenses, not to mention the trauma and disgust of the little black child.

Gunn’s daughter says the landlord said it was her “Black hair products” that ‘clouded the pool  were a problem for the pool, that doesn’t even pass the smell test.

They are suing for all expenses including punitive damages for the shaken child and expect to win easily.

They have already moved from the complex as they await the decision by the Judge, which should be announced later this week.

UPDATE: Christopher Husbands – Suspect in Eaton Centre shooting involved in another gun charge weeks earlier in Hamilton – dismissed

Although Christopher Husbands, 24, does have a previous criminal record from March, 1, 2010, incident, at 1:45 am, we still do not have a booking photo of him, why are the police not releasing his booking photo. (It may be because of a court publication ban.)

He’s still in custody in jail and will appear in court for the Eaton Centre charges on August 25th.

Five weeks before the Eaton Centre shooting in Toronto, Husbands was in Hamilton (just west of Toronto) and asleep in a car with a loaded (ten rounds) Heckler & Koch 40 calibre handgun in a secret compartment, and had a little pot in his possession. He was charged with nine gun related offences, but the Crown chose to dismiss all the gun related charges, because it was not his car.

He faced two more charges of obstructing a police officer, one of breaching bail conditions and one of pot possession, but the Crown chose to accept ‘time served’ for these minor charges. It was reported in court that he had no earlier criminal charges.

Had the book been thrown at him, possibly these two people and many others injured in the June shooting at Eaton Centre, would never have happened.

It appears the cops are doing everything they can to get these guns off the street, but when it enters the court system, they are failing us.

Toronto Police Service: Gun violence – Just a bunch of buzz words, will they amount to anything?

Toronto Police Service Chief Bill Blair held a news conference today,  announcing a new ‘strategy’ on how to get control of the gun violence in the City of Toronto.

The city has 17 Divisions and they plan on redirecting patrols to different areas of the city at anytime, when trouble breaks out. Extending existing eight-hour shifts to 12 hours, he plans on increasing patrols to community events like the Caribbean Festival, where he will assign almost 500 officers. All officers will be asked to work longer shifts, (compulsory overtime) which puts them at risk, and has the Toronto Police Association given the Chief their blessing?

This sounds like double talk and buzz words, to let the public think they are doing something to protect the citizens. Buzz words such as, initiatives, resources, partners, innovations and outreach, all have one thing in common, they don’t mean anything to the criminals who are murdering our citizens.

He wants the public to “Feel safe” and hopes that they are safe.

What will the criminals do to bypass this ‘initiative’ will they just move somewhere else, where police cannot find them.

Why was Chief Blair not asked about ‘Stop and Frisk’ a program that appears to be working in New York City. It allows the police to ask anyone they find to be suspicious, to search them for guns at anytime.

The Chief was asked if he supports putting cameras into TCHC (Toronto Community Housing Corp) where many of this gun violence is taking place, at the moment there are very few cameras in TCHC housing units. He danced around that and said it’s not up to him, but thinks it would be best to have more cameras.

There still is apprehension by the public in the trouble areas of the city to report anything they know or see, including the recent deadly shootings at Scarborough’s Danzig Street.

Another option put forward is to evict persons convicted of drug and gun violence from TCHC properties.

UPDATE: Trayvon Martin – Ashleigh Banfield does an excellent interview with eyewitness of killing

Last night on Anderson Cooper 360, Ashleigh Banfield filled in for an interview with one of the eyewitnesses (in silhouette) of the Trayvon Martin killing.

Here are some snippets (quotes) from the interview, which contradict what she says from one sentence to the next. You can view the full interview HERE for yourself. The eyewitness even has her own lawyer, and still no one has been arrested for the killing.

“Two men on the ground and something really horrible is happening,” but she calls Trayvon a boy in earlier statements.

“I was looking at the two men on the ground and heard the gunshot”

One thing I found strange was the eyewitness said that the larger man got up off the other one, when they were tussling around on the ground and walked away after the gunshot. From what I know, Trayvon was the bigger man, over six feet tall.

“I will just say a couple of seconds later the larger man was walking closer to where I could see him.”

I’m no big fan of Ashleigh Banfield since she has been on CNN’s Early Start every morning for the past few months. Although she did a good interview last night, but I’m wondering if those were her questions.

It seems as long as she sticks to the script, she does just fine.

UPDATE: Oops, she did blow it, Banfield called the “larger man” Hispanic, which the eyewitness did not say, she injected that in herself. Check it out HERE.

99th annual – Le Tour de France 2012: ‘The greatest sporting event in the world’

Foix, France – The event started in 1903 and this bike race across France has drawn competitors from around the world and this three-week race is half way through, ending July 22/2012 Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Paris.

Yesterday was the 14th stage of 20, the race which goes through the mountains, cities and towns of France, the 99th, a total of 3,497km (just over 2100 miles.)

A mishap occurred yesterday that has not happened since the 1920’s when it was disclosed that a spectator may have thrown carpet tacks on the roadway near the top of one of the mountains. Several racers encountered flat tires which happens occasionally, but not 10 within five minutes.

The whole race is being covered by NBC Sports and can also be viewed LIVE on TSN2 in Canada early each day. Not only are the racers incredible, the scenic parts of France are a beautiful site through all the small towns scattered throughout the country.

The dedication and endurance of all the nearly 200 racers is astounding and after 14 stages about 35 have had to drop out due to serious injuries on the 99th annual road race.

Christopher Husbands charged in Toronto Eaton Centre shootings. No pictures of accused released by police

Toronto, Canada – Christopher Husbands has been charged with murder in the killing of Ahmed Hassan and six other patrons were shot at the Eaton Centre this past weekend.

Husbands is awaiting trial  for a sexual assault from 2010 when he was under house arrest.

One pregnant women was trampled while people rushed to get out of the mall, however she is recovering in hospital with her unborn child.

A 13-year-old boy visiting Toronto for the day from Port Hope (two hours east of Toronto) was also shot in the head and is recovering well in the hospital but still in critical condition.

Police have not said what kind of gun was used and some reports have indicated it was a machine gun, but police did not disclose any further information. There were at least 12 shots fired in the crowded food court in the basement of the mall which is still closed.

Husbands is known to police, but for some reason they have not released a picture of him to the media.

He is in custody and his next court date will be in August, but must attend court for sexual assault charge from 2010, on June 25th. The issue of bail has not been addressed but it is expected he will be held until trial.

UPDATE: June 6/2012 – It was revealed today that Husbands had been working for the City of Toronto in their after school program at Stan Wadlow Park Clubhouse in East York. He had been under house arrest when he went to the Eaton Centre, and allegedly shot Hassan.

The city has said as of today, they will do background checks on all employees, since one was never done on Husbands. Parents are outraged that he could work around children, while he was out on bail for sexual assault and drugs.

The city is also changing their hiring guidelines to weed out anyone with a serious criminal record.

Same-sex marriage OK, Women can vote, slavery is over, America offers equal rights to all, Obama has spoken

Equal rights to all, has finally happened in America, President Obama announced today “Same- sex couples should be able to get married.”

No matter how we tried to dance around it, deep down within everyone, the truth is, all people should be allowed to enjoy the love from one another, the same rights that heterosexuals enjoy, no matter what sex you are.

States can choose to allow it or not, but human rights are not a choice, equal rights are human rights and all must be treated the same. And North Carolina has clearly made that choice, when they passed this amendment yesterday:

“Constitutional amendment to provide that Marriage between one man and one women is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state”

So there, we have control of it, and you can’t have any of it (The Golden rule) ….
Does this seem fair, equal rights to all, non discriminating? Not really. Future history will tell that NC has made a mistake in not giving the same rights to all it’s citizens.

North Carolina’s opposition to this move by the President is mainly because they say they want to keep the sanctity of marriage, which is nothing to wave a flag about. One in three heterosexual marriages end in divorce now, and the wording of this amendment will outlaw common law relationships along with gay ones.

By not allowing gays to marry, we are clearly discriminating against them.

Economy and jobs will be the highlight for the election, however that has changed now after Obama’s statement.

You can bet that same-sex marriage will be a big part of the election.

It was the right thing to do and about time.

Recent polls show that over 70% Republicans are against same-sex marriage, but it’s over 60% in favour with the Democrats.

Will this issue, human rights, make a difference in the election of the President in November 2012?
You bet.

Mitt Romney the Republican nominee for President has already disclosed his position, he ‘only supports marriage between a man and a women.’

I’m married and don’t understand the fear that this creates for some people. It’s always the way it has been, but we are evolving all the time, and correct things, that are just not right, and fair. It’s clearly time to make this right.

This will be the turning point for either leader in the upcoming election. this is becoming very interesting.

I never thought I would see a black man in the White House in my lifetime, and I never thought I would hear a sitting President support same-sex marriage. I believe this will be the right decision for Obama, failing that, it will treat all Americans equally. That is step in the right direction. And many families, men and women will realize, their right are important, because the President of the United States of America, clearly said it is. It’s a great day in American history, for all, including the LGBT groups. “no football spikes here.”
