– It’s official, Sirus/XM satellite radio host Howard Stern will replace judge Piers Morgan on this summer’s America’s Got Talent. For the sake of Stern, the show will be moved from Los Angeles to New York.
The 57-year-old Stern has been well known as “King of All Media” and on the radio for over 35 years with the last few years where he moved to satellite where he can say what he wants. Stern made the official announcement this morning on his Sirius/XM radio
show from New York City with lots of fanfare.
He will continue to do his radio show, and even though he gets up at 4 a.m. he will do the judging which will work around his hours. He will replace Piers Morgan who did the show for six years and has since moved to replace Larry King on CNN. Howard Stern has never been one to be shy and he always says what he thinks, “The show is not about me, and it’s the number one summer show on NBC.”
He went on to say this morning on his show, “My opinion is the one that matters, and all the other judges will follow.” He has never said he doesn’t have an ego either, and America’s Got Talent will benefit from his association with the show, as he will talk about it every morning. “I didn’t do it for the money, and it starts taping in February.” he added.
In replacing Piers Morgan for the seventh season he said, “I’m going to be Piers on steroids.”
UPDATE: It didn’t take long for many to come out and condemn NBC for making Stern the judge, and of course the Parents Television Council in the USA. As reported in the Wall Street Journal many feel he will not be appropriate for younger viewers. And NBC is only doing this to increase ratings which will put an even bigger buzz on the show because of criticism.
The only thing they forget, is to change the channel.
