Orlando, Florida – Back in 1692 people would have trials for residents they believed to be witches, and had a kangaroo court that killed anyone accused and convicted of engaging in witchcraft. We all hope we have past that point, where isolationism, religious extremism, false accusations, lapses in due process, and local governmental intrusion on individual liberties existed, and many were put to death, by hanging or stoning. The Salem Witch Trials of 1692 was a terrible injustice in the history of America. The hysteria that existed in the Casey Anthony murder trial is not the same, but the emotions seem to be similar. Many have said that this trial was similar to the acquittal of O.J. Simpson, but it is only the same in the fact that they were both found not guilty. Racial tensions were high at the time of the Simpson trial in L.A. and it appears to me, it may have been a political decision with the jury sending a message, but in the Simpson trial there was all kinds of real evidence, DNA, foot prints in the blood, a motive, location of the deaths, but in the Anthony trial it was all circumstantial evidence, but the main evidence in my eyes, was “why did it take Casey 31 days” to report, Caylee missing or dead? We should only convict people of real evidence, beyond a reasonable doubt, and if they don’t have that, they must be acquitted, I don’t agree totally with the verdict, but that was their decision and we must accept it. Would you change your mind if you or an immediate family member was charged with murder and they were innocent, but the jury wanted to be voting based on what the general public thought?

It has been reported that almost two thirds of the public wanted a guilty verdict, in my poll, it was around 76% wanted guilty, but both polls are not scientific, and the general feeling is, most wanted a guilty verdict. But people other than the jury had all kinds of “evidence” that was not allowed in court, emotion, speculation and shear opinions from TV talking heads.

Is that how you want our justice system to work, judged in the media, I do not.
Let’s never go back to the days of 1692 ….
